ANN: ANTS v2.0
ANTS Version 2.0
----------------
ANTS2.0 is brought to you by the University of Utah and the University
of Washington, as part of the DARPA Active Networks program. ANTS is
the Active Network Transport System, a Java-based execution environment
for active network applications. ANTS2.0 is a major upgrade from the
last official ANTS release, 1.3. It includes all of the features both
of Utah's ANTSR and ANTS1.3, plus several new features. Some of the
most important new features since 1.3:
Use of the Janos Java NodeOS to access the network, create
threads, etc. (For convenience a binary distribution of the
Janos Java NodeOS is included; source is separately available
from http://www.cs.utah.edu/flux/janos/ ).
Many internal changes for intelligent per-protocol and
per-application resource controls. ANTS2 includes a nearly
complete restructuring of the ANTS internals, while making few
changes to the public ANTS API.
Inclusion of a new prototype security subsystem that allows
the runtime to make fine-grained access control decisions on a
per-application and per-protocol basis.
Separation of the dynamic routing protocol out of the ANTS
core. It operates as a regular application and protocol.
Several new demo applications, and more robust scripts for
running them.
Lots of bug fixes.
Important features that continue to be available in ANTS2:
ABONE and DANTE support.
Example applications.
JDK1.1.x compatibility. (Works with Kaffe, too.)
A simple BSD-style license.
ANTS2 can be downloaded from the following pages:

Anonymous access to the CVS repository for ANTS2 will be forthcoming.
