Alpha_1 Distribution File Structure

Alpha_1 is a copyrighted and licensed software distribution. Copyright is held by the University of Utah. Free licences are granted to educational and government institutions for non-commercial purposes.

There is also a commercial product based on Alpha_1, named FeatureMill, available from Engineering Geometry Systems.

Alpha_1 Distribution File Structure

The full Alpha_1 research system distribution is a directory hierarchy of binary programs, runtime data, on-line manuals, etc. The root of this hierarchy is refered to as $A1ROOT throughout the documentation. (At Utah, this is typically /usr/local/apps/alpha1.) Here is a brief description of the structure and contents of the distribution:

  • cmds - Unix shell extensions.
  • data - Runtime data and libraries.
  • emacs - GNU emacs extensions.
  • man - On-line manuals and reference material.
