About this Model
Detailed Description/Unique Modeling Approaches
Each column is extruded from a cog shaped curve. The curve was obtained
by taking alternating sections, 10 degrees apart, from two different sized
circles.
The bases of the columns are made by a surface of revolution of
a curve.
The final picture consists of 4 whole columns, and 1 "Broken"
one, created by boolean operations. All of the columns are texture
mapped, & have surface qualities.
The sky and floor are just boxes placed in the background.
I originally used a huge sphere for the sky, so the sky would always
be there no matter the view point, but this slowed the
rendering and raytracing down by far too much.
Difficulties:
I ran into a few problems with ray trace. It would not raytrace a
box which was grouped with an object that you are going to ray
trace. The only way it would raytrace an box is if it was included in
the list of objects for "dumpGeomFile" or if you used "makeGeom(of_the_box)"
