Equipment racks

This page describes the layout and function of the equipment in the equipment racks. The equipment racks are numbered 1-5 from left to right. Equipment is described from top to bottom in each rack.


Rack 1

Make/Model Device Description
Furman PL-8 Power module Supplies power to equipment in the rack.
Leitch SPG-1300N Genlock (2) Generates a reference signal for synchronizing video devices. This signal is used on-air when a black screen is required.
Leitch FR-681-C Video amplifier Boosts the strength of video signals for passage through connectors and machines.
Phasecon IEC-835 ? ?
F-22 Time code generator Generates a signal for SMPTE time encoding which stamps each video frame with a unique identifier.
Lyon Lamb Real Time Converter (RTCn) frame buffer (2) Converts RGB signals from workstations to NTSC video signals compatible with videotape and television-style monitors and stores frames for broadcast.
Paltex Editing controller Coordinates editing of video recordings. This unit is controlled from a console in the video booth.

Rack 2

Make/Model Device Description
AVM 19s Video monitor Monitors the video signal from various sources.
Furman PL-8 Power module Supplies power to equipement in the rack.
Fostex 6301B Monitor speakers (2) Monitors the audio signal from various sources.
Videotek RS-10A Audio/video source switcher. Selects the input sent to the monitors above.
Videotek Prodigy Effects generator and video mixer Mixes video signals with a variety of effects. Controlled from a console in the video booth.
Faroudja RGB converter Converts RGB signals to NTSC video signals compatible with videotape and television monitors.
Abekas A20 Analog to digital converter Converts analog video signals to digital format. The Exabyte tape drive for the Abekas system is bolted to the top of this unit.
Abekas A60 Frame store Stores up to 750 video frames for playback or recording.

Videotek VSM-61 Signal monitor (2) Displays raw video signal characteristics.
Furman PL-8 Power Module Supplies power to the equipment in the rack.
BTS BCB-75 Videocassette recorder (VTR1) Records and plays two sizes of Betacam videocassettes.
BTS BCB-70 Videocassette recorder (VTR2) Records and plays two sizes of Betacam videocassettes.
BTS BCB-65 Videocassette player (VTR3) Plays two sizes of Betacam videocassettes.
Sony LVR-5000A Videodisk recorder (VTR4) Records and plays laser video disks.
Sony LVS-5000A Videodisk processor Assists the video disk recorder.
Digital DPS-295 Time base corrector Synchronizes video signals according to a time signal source.

Furman PL-8 Power module Supplies power to the equipment in the rack.
Panasonic AG-7750 Videocassette recorder (VTR5) Records and plays VHS or SVHS videocassettes.
JVC BR-S611U Videocasette recorder (VTR6) Records and plays VHS or SVHS videocassettes.
Sony VO-5850 Videocassette recorder (VTR7) Records and plays U-matic videocassettes.
Gentner Telephone interface Broadcasts telephone conversations over the STC link.
Shure ST-6300 Audio amplifier Amplifies audio signals for speakers.
DigitalLink DL-100 Multiplexer Combines audio, video, and digital data for communication over the STC link.
Cisco Systems 3000 Network router Connects the lab Ethernet LAN to the STC link.
CLI Rembrandt II/VP Codec (NET) Encodes and decodes audio and video for MPEG transmission over the STC link.

Rack 5

Make/Model Device Description
Furman PL-8 Power module Supplies power to equipment in the rack.
ADC Patch panel (5) Connects audio signals between devices.
Greene Audio amplifier Amplifies audio signals for speakers.
Fora FA-420 Time base corrector (TBC1) Synchronizes video signals according to a time signal.
Hotronic AP-41 Time base corrector (TBC2) Synchronizes video signals according to a time signal.
ADC Patch panel (5) Connects video signals between devices.
Dynasty Dynair Video router (2) Switches video signals between devices according to software commands.
ADC Patch panel Connects video signals beteween devices.
