Problems With the Videotek Prodigy Effects Editor.

This section describes common problems with the Videotek controller that is located in the editing booth.

Problem: Mix and Wipe Don't Work!
You've read the manual, mixes and wipes look like they're simple, but they don't seem to work. Note that the simplest test is to try a mix. All you should have to do is press the MIX button, select a new source on the preset bus, and move the fader or press AUTO TRANS.

Answer: BKGD is selected
If the BKGD button is selected, then no transitions will have any effect. You will also see the program signal on both program and preset monitors (if you have them hooked up, of course). Normally, the button would be lit, but the lamp is burned out, so that test doesn't exactly work. The solution is to press the button and try your transition again.

Answer: No sync
The only effect allowed by the system is a cut if the video signals are out of sync. You'll know a signal is out of sync if its button on the preset bus (the bottom row) is flashing. The solution is to provide a sync for that signal. Cameras, for example do not generate a sync signal. They need to be run through one of the three Time Base Correctors (TBCs) that are available for this purpose. Note that VTR5 also has its own TBC, so a signal can be passed through it to give it a sync.
