The yellow ring seen inside the outer gimbal is the payload ring, or
inner gimbal, which was intended to hold the primary mirror. This
ring has been removed from the design, making the primary mirror
itself the inner gimbal. This is accomplished by mounting the primary
mirror directly to the bearing housing.
Approximate Dimensions:
- Outer gimbal ring: 4.600 inch diagonal diameter
- Bearing caps: 2.200 inch diameter
- Optical spider: 1.920 inch height
